Puerto Rican anarchist Luisa Capetillo challenged societal norms by becoming the first woman to wear pants in public. She was jailed for her action, which was considered a crime then. The charges were later dropped. Capetillo continued to be on the forefront of reform in Puerto Rico throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.
